Joining the Special Constabulary for Police Scotland 

J Division – Lothian and Scottish Borders

‘Are you 18 or over, physically fit and passionate about making a difference in your community? Do you have some time to spare, or are you thinking about trying something new?

If you answered 'yes' to some or all of the above, why not think about volunteering with Police Scotland as a Special Constable.’

 What the role involves

·         We ask that you support us, support our communities, where and when you can.

·         You decide on when you can assist us – around your current commitments.

·         We also ask that you bring your skills, experience and enthusiasm along to assist us in various roles.

·         After your appointment, training and oath of constable. You will be bestowed the same powers as that of a full-time police officer.

·         Use your existing and new skills to support our communities in various ways.

·         All we ask that you volunteer 96 hours or more as a Special Constable, per year.

 

Are you eligible?

·         You must be a minimum of 18 years old. There is no upper age limit.

·         You must be physically fit and mentally resilient to undertake police duties.

·         You must meet the vetting standards.

·         Your eyesight must meet the national eyesight standard.

·         Your Body Mass Index (BMI) must be within the range of 18 and 30.

·         No driving licence required.

·         No formal qualifications required.

·         Candidates of all nationalities are encouraged to apply, provided there are no restrictions on your right to volunteer (www.gov.uk).
